2012 is an election year and the Deer Valley Law & Justice Academy seized this opportunity to have their students take part in a cross-curricular project. Students were placed into groups and randomly assigned either a proposition or a candidate from the upcoming election. They were also told to keep a journal/learning log of their progress as they neared closer to the eventful night of October 23, 2012. From Government focusing on the process as well as, current events pertaining to their proposition or candidate, to students in AP and CP English better honing their research skills through online databases the Deer Valley Law & Justice Academy were constantly integrating politics into their daily curriculums. Another class in the academy to integrate politics into their law-based curriculums is the newly introduced Social Justice. The class revolves around social issues such as, racism and the death penalty but when the mock election was introduced the class shifted towards analytical interpretations of the presidential debates and the mass media.
